Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) Ltd has secured a significant contract with the Directorate General Defence Purchase, Ministry of Defence, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. This contract, valued at approximately 21 million USD, involves the construction and delivery of an advanced ocean-going tug.

Nature of the Contract and Time Period

The contract requires GRSE to design, build, and deliver one advanced ocean-going tug vessel. The project is to be completed within 24 months. This international order further solidifies GRSE's presence in the global defense market.

The advanced ocean-going tug will have the following specifications:

Primary and Secondary Roles

The primary roles of the tug will include:

  • Towing ships at sea, both alongside and astern
  • Assisting ships during berthing and casting off
  • Helping ships in turning through pushing and pulling
  • Carrying out rescue and salvage operations at sea

The secondary roles will encompass:

  • Providing firefighting support to ships at sea
  • Conducting limited pollution control measures

The vessel will be highly robust, capable of operating even at sea state 5 (wind speeds of 17-21 knots and wave heights of 2-3 meters) with a dynamic positioning - 2 system capability. This advanced computer-controlled system allows the ship to maintain its heading and position without using mooring lines or anchors.

Recent Agreements and Developments

This contract follows GRSE's recent agreement with Bangladesh for the delivery of a Trailing Suction Hopper (TSH) dredger and a contract with a German company for the delivery of at least four multi-purpose cargo vessels.
