Hi-Tech Pipes Ltd., a steel tubes and pipes manufacturer in India, has unveiled its ambitious plans to enhance its green energy efforts. The company is set to focus on decarbonizing its manufacturing facilities by introducing 5 MW of green power through rooftop solar and open access projects and generating green hydrogen gas.
Hi-Tech Pipes aims to align with the Government of India’s mission for zero carbon emissions by 2070. As part of this commitment, the company is advancing its green power initiatives with the installation of new solar power facilities and sourcing green energy through group captive open access projects.
By December 31, 2024, the company expects to add 2 MW from new rooftop solar installations, and by September 1, 2024, it will secure an additional 3 MW through group captive open access projects. This will bring the total green power capacity to 13.5 MW, covering about 30% of the company's total power needs.
In addition to solar power, Hi-Tech Pipes is entering the green hydrogen sector. The company has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a leading renewable energy supplier to generate and use green hydrogen. This project, expected to produce 2.4 lakh cubic meters of green hydrogen, is a significant step towards reducing reliance on fossil fuels and supporting the Government's green hydrogen policy.
Mr. Ajay Kumar Bansal, Chairman of Hi-Tech Pipes Ltd., stated, “We are dedicated to advancing India’s journey toward carbon neutrality. Our new green hydrogen projects will support the government’s green hydrogen policy and help transition from grey to green hydrogen.
This will make India a hub for green hydrogen generation and export, Bansal noted that the initial focus will be on green hydrogen projects at their Sikanderabad, Uttar Pradesh plant. This partnership aims to support the Government of India's green hydrogen policy and boost decarbonization efforts.
The planned joint ventures (JVs) will help transition from grey hydrogen to green hydrogen, produced via electrolysis powered by renewable energy. This initiative will enhance our environmental sustainability and contribute to the country's energy security.”
Hi-Tech Pipes' efforts reflect a broader commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals, aiming to boost the company's societal value and support India’s green energy aspirations.
