AT&T(T)
AT&T formerly known as the American Telephone and Telegraph Company, is a prominent American multinational telecommunications holding company headquartered in Whitacre Tower in Downtown Dallas, Texas.
As of 2023, it is recognized as the world's third-largest telecommunications company by revenue and holds the distinction of being the largest wireless carrier in the United States. AT&T's influence in the business world is evident as it was ranked 13th on the Fortune 500 list of the largest United States corporations, boasting a substantial revenue of $120.7 billion.
The company's history dates back to the late 19th century when it began as the American District Telegraph Company in 1878. Through a series of mergers and expansions, it gradually evolved into the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in 1920, which was a subsidiary of the American Telephone and Telegraph Company (AT&T). AT&T, in turn, was a successor of the original Bell Telephone Company founded by Alexander Graham Bell in 1877.
In 1885, the American Bell Telephone Company formed AT&T as a subsidiary, and by 1899, AT&T had become the parent company after the American Bell Telephone Company sold its assets to its subsidiary. The company underwent several rebrandings, ultimately becoming AT&T Corp. in 1994.
